Still We Rise.

March 13, 2018March 14, 2018 ~ killingvenus ~ 1 Comment

On Saturday 10th March, my friend Tahera and I attended the Million Women Rise march in London. In its eleventh year, the annual march calls for an end to all forms of male violence against women and girls. While the profile of workplace sexual harassment has taken the spotlight in the past few months, male … Continue reading Still We Rise.

I don't have a lot to say other than the Jubilee can get in the bin along with our sadistic government. Before you go and spend your cash on cheap, plastic union jack trash this weekend ahead of next week's 'festivities,' think about donating to your local food or hygiene bank (preferably @allrisecollective) #EatTheRich
Anyone else finding social media quite hard at the moment?
Domestic violence isn't just about physical violence- punching, kicking, pushing, shoving, choking. Its about power, specifically about the imbalance of power. I believe women- in fact all people marginalised by their gender- when they talk of violence because we have all experienced it in some form and we have all been dismissed and disbelieved.
Look at that naive face full of optimism about the week that lay ahead! (I took this last week after a lovely day spent in the forest with friends and then a photoshoot with @farrahkathleen) I thought this week was a great week to start cycling again after 6 years and 3 years of no exercise after having a baby. The week I started a new job AND the week I have my period. My body is BROKEN and I look like Baba Yaga but I literally can't stop talking about excited I am about future possibilities. I am excited for the first time in ages so while I look like a forest hag at the moment, this photo matches my current inner enthusiasm. Give me a week and I'm sure I'll be back to being cynical and jaded and it will be business as usual around here.
I start my new job tomorrow and I have been so busy during the holidays that I haven't thought much about leaving the school I was at for 9 years. That was until a couple of days ago when I started listening to the Trojan Horse Affair podcast and started thinking about how Islamophobia has impacted and will continue to impact so many people I care about (while also wanting to throw my phone through a window while I thought about all of the adults and children whonwere failed by our government and press). It is currently the holy month of Ramadan and as good a time as any to reflect on how deeply ingrained our own Islamophobia is and how we must start to unlearn so many beliefs and biases. Anti racism work MUST include justice and freedom for our Muslim siblings.
The time is now #EatTheRich
